Woman up. That’s a thing right? Woman up? It’s not man up since I’m missing a few key body parts. Plus we live in a time where women can and should feel empowered, confident and satisfied. And all of that comes with getting things done. It really does! Don’t believe me? Think about the last time you completed something. The last time you finished whatever it was that you were working on or whatever goal you were trying to reach. Once you finally did, I bet you felt amazing! You felt accomplished and you felt like you hadn’t just gotten it done, you kicked some ass in the process.
But how many days are in between those days of accomplishment? How many days do you go to bed feeling like you haven’t done anything? Like you simply treaded water but didn’t get anywhere?
It is beyond frustrating. It makes you feel as though you’re failing. But you’re not.
Look, we all tread water sometimes. We all have those days or weeks or even months where nothing moves the needle, where we don’t get anything accomplished. At least that’s what it feels like.
What if I told you that feeling is wrong.
Why would I say that? Because I want, better yet, I need you to understand something very important.
Just because you haven’t checked another item off of your list, or haven’t accomplished a large goal doesn’t mean it was for nothing.
It took me so long to realize that. I spent so many nights trying to fall asleep thinking about all of the things on my to-do list. Thinking about how many of them I hadn’t checked off that day.
Then it hit me. I hadn’t done nothing. Sure, I hadn’t checked something off of my list or hit that goal, but I had taken steps toward them. Even if it was taking a day off to regain my sanity – it would help me make those checks and hit those goals in the long run.
I truly believe it comes down to how you look at things. So here are my favorite tips to get it done.
1. Give yourself permission to let go.
Let go of planning out every portion of your day. Let yourself work as it comes. Sometimes I plan out my day or decide first thing what items I want to work towards and my day turns out completely different. Maybe I get into the “zone” when I’m writing and just keep writing rather than doing that next task. Or I create a printable and instead of setting up my email sequence I take the time to expand what I was working on.
2. Don’t worry about checking it off
Don’t get me wrong, deadlines are amazing, and you should totally have them. Just don’t get discouraged if you don’t hit them on the first try. Evaluate where you’re at, and give yourself a new deadline that you know you can hit.
3. Give yourself a break
There is nothing wrong with taking a break or taking time off. Take it from someone who has been there. Taking a short vacation is far better than getting burned out.
And let me leave you with this. You are awesome and what you’re doing might not move mountains today, but it will bring you closer to your goals as long as you keep at it.
