We often talk about how things could be better. About how we have to get over that next hurdle, get to Friday, get the promotion. What if we could just be happier? What if you could find a way to be happier now? It sounds pretty good to me. Today, that’s exactly what we’re going to talk about and the best part is, it’s easier than you think! Here’s some simple ways to be happier this year (and beyond).

Celebrate yourself

Whether a win is big or small, it’s important to celebrate it because, hey, you deserve it. So celebrate those wins. Take time out, grab your favorite drink, sit down with a good book – whatever you want to do to give yourself a little “go me”.

Start a journal

Journaling is important, and if you haven’t tried it yet, you definitely should! Starting a journal and writing regularly helps you feel good! You get to relive events that make you smile in a place where there’s absolutely no judgement, so write your heart out!

Listen to your body

Believe it or not, your body tells you a lot of things – you just have to listen. One of the simplest ways to be happier is to help yourself feel better in little ways by listening to your body. So sleep when you’re tired. Wake up when you’re ready (on days when you can). Eat when you’re hungry and stop when you’re full.

Put the phone down

Or the computer, or tablet. Step away from electronics and give your mind and your eyes a rest. Plus, get away from the loneliness of the screen. Social media and social content can give off bad vibes.

Singing relieves stress and is a natural antidepressant. Plus, it releases endorphins. So next time you’re in the car or shower, turn on your favorite song and go for it. It’s an easy way to be happier that you can do every single day.

Get out of your own head

Sometimes we can be our own worst enemy. So take some time to get away from your thoughts. Watch your favorite movie or have a conversation with a good friend about light topics.

Find the positives

We all face situations that seem hopeless. Or less dire situations where it just seems to suck, but try your best to see the positives in each situation. Know there is an end coming to hard times. Understand that sometimes a no can mean you’re available for a different, better opportunity down the road.

Learn to say no

If you’re like a lot of people, you want to please everyone. Finding happiness for yourself sometimes means you can’t do everything because, you can’t do everything. No one reading this is super(wo)man. Know your limits and stick to them.

They say you’re most like the company you keep. So by helping others around you feel happy, you can in turn, make yourself happier. Win-win.
